The large biogas CHP order from Stadtwerke Lünen has now been delivered and commissioned.  The beautiful and silent energy generators have had a profound effect on the people of the German town that protect the units against vandalism.  The special design and silence was demands made by the council as the units are dotted around residential areas and by damming the sound pressure, the noise level was reduced to whispering. 

13 CHP units are installed with a total output of 3,4 MW in the supply area of Stadtwerke Lünen. 10 plants are fed biogas from a central anaerobic digestion plant which is distributed through the city in a pipe-network particularly built for this purpose. Further 3 units are operated with natural gas to supplement the other biogas units. The heat from the CHPs is fed into the existing district heating network of the Stadtwerke Lünen.

The system highlights the main advantage of the decentralised energy structure that reduces pipeline losses.  The installation of the containerised CHPs in the middle of residential areas has required a special design to limit the noise control and make the boxes visually pleasing.  For this purpose, Alfagy's engineers developed highly sound insulated and very quiet containers that are covered with facade panels in different colours and designs.  With this urban adaption strategy, our standardised containers blend into the townscape to represent art work or garden installations.
